A few years ago, developing a good search engine was hard work. Today, it's even harder:

You've all heard about how the web is growing at an extremely fast pace, which causes the storage and processing requirements for any engine to grow higher and higher. However, many of us don't realize that there are a large number of people out there who are flooding the internet with content-poor, advertisement-rich pages, often in an attempt to make a quick buck off unsuspecting surfers. Not only does this continually lower the signal-to-noise ratio of the web, but it makes the job of the search engine harder — identifying the bad stuff out there is hard work.
Luckily, the big brains at various search engines have a number of techniques for identifying and dealing with these less-than-desirable webpages, and Snap is no exception. We feel we've done a good job so far of limiting the number of these "spammy" sites that ever get shown to you, and we still have plenty of great spam-fighting tricks left up our sleeve. There is also plenty of research being done outside of the commercial engines, as academia is taking an interest too.

We're excited to keep fighting the good fight, and we're confident that your experiences with Snap will get even better as we bring more of our new ideas to light.

Keep up the good work. This could be the thing that sets you apart from other search engines.
