I think it would be in the best interests to have a small raffle prize. I have now seen it done with sites like Blingo and MSN Search & Win. Say, at built in intervals the person who searches immediately after that interval is passed wins, and it will either notify them, or they will have to click a link displayed on the page to show them that they've won. Now personally I think if you were to do a contest like that, it would be best to also do it on the international level. If you were to pull in the international crowd, you'd of course naturally have a bigger piece of the overall internet audience. Plenty of people just love to enter these kinds of instant win contests but are unable due to their geographic location. This not only boosts the userbase, with people coming back to play every day, but also gets them into the groove of using your search engine, which will pay its way off down the line. |

This idea IS TEH ROXORS
from marketing aspect - this idea is not fresh and new. No innovation points here.
As for a cost point of view - sending out the prizes is no big deal, but then you probably will keep getting the same people over and over playing the game, and not expanding into new eyeballs. Again, not a good marketing idea. you can argue that more people will come to play - but a lot of your prize cost will go to repeat people.
international is a good idea, and a bad idea. Cost to mail overseas the prizes, and get prizes that can be used here and there - just adds a layer of complexity that is not needed.
Overall :
Unoriginal
Uninspiring
Suspected worth
IMHO
How did this get 34 votes? What a horrible idea.
probably because the other ideas are much worse than this one…?!
These "wins" pop up all of the time, and I NEVER click them. They are, at best, irritating and I think that most people do not believe they will win a thing.
If I have to choose between this or the others, then this is what get's my vote.
Why are people saying this is the best out of a bunch of bad ideas? This idea appeals to the masses and targets a wide audience, this is why it has so many votes.
Actually, they are only winning because the guy posted on his forum telling all the members to vote. Some of the members have even voted multiple times.
Here is the thread: http://forum.mp-gaming.net/?showtopic=14720
I thought that was the general idea. Refer people to vote, etc. Read the rules buddy. As far as people voting multiple times, i'm sure those votes will be removed when the Launch Contest is over. We will see the results then. Hope they don't continue, because it gives the idea of false safety in terms of vote-margin. :)
… Never said that posting on your forum was against the rules. I was simply explaining to the people who were discussing why it got so many votes.
Haha, well I accidentally clicked the link on your forum so you got an free vote from me. :p
lol. :) Cool. Yeah I figured why not put it to good use. Solid community support. :)
Does this not go against the spirit of the competition? To vote for the best idea. This is not the best idea.
People have their option to vote for whatever they want. No one is controlling them. I am just pitching the idea to them. :)
Kalo can talk, yay :D
for all ya bunch around here who say tis is a bad idea
ur just jelous :) ktnxbai ^.^
and so he asked us to vote for it
and since we all support kalo we voted for him and i didt not only voted because kalo made tis post but because of the idea its like 100% better then most of the idea ya lot putted on infact its the best :)
and yes the multivoted is gay hope that get removed
MP FTW :D
MP FTW :)
Another web competition? meh - it doesn't grab my attention.
MP FTW :)

MP = Teh 1337, so MP is teh WIN!

When people are surfing the internet and they will get advertisement popups they will click them away.(normaly) But i think when people know they can win stuff and see the popup they wont click it away.(thats why they use the new search engine).
If the popup or the win message(page) is in the same style as the search engine site then people will belive it.
my thought..

I think its a good idea
1 vote
plain and simple
I was going to vote on this one, but after reading what Script wrote, I decided against it.
I agree that it would probably become irritating after a while to have to deal with all the little messages about clicking here for a raffle prize.
You can ofcource disable the ads with with cookies or ip save.
so when u dont like it you can disable it for yourself.
Nice Idea, Beats the Rest.

As this contest seems to be like a Popularity Contest from high school I hope to shake things up a bit by grabbing hold of the current popular kids coat-tails (you), and letting others know what I have to offer in terms of possibly running the popular circle.
Ahem.
My plan linked above (copy and past the text if it isn't linked) is up for the Prom King/Queen (internet-related creations are unisex obviously) for many reasons, but to put them all here would really mess up the flow of the page. If you got some time on your hands (the post is the equivalent to 4 pages single-spaced in Word) take a look at the post and let me know what you think. In reality, if you happen to be one of the people that voted for this idea (you must have a long list of MySpace friends or email addresses, goodness me) I have no doubt you will have an interest in my own. Not only does my plan integrate MySpace, but also other niche online communities on the rise including Second Life, Facebook, and Flickr. If you are a member of any one of these communities you know how quickly they have grown and continue to do so. Aligning oneself with all four of these online communities, in very distinct ways for each, is the key to starting a huge foundation of users.
If you think I am wrong let your voice be heard. I have been waiting for an online debate for a long time. The way I see this contest going, especially with the lack of "bad idea" buttons, is for those with the longest list of contacts to end up winning. What I will do to try to even out things (in my favor) is to offer anyone who votes for my idea a couple of drinks on me. Obviously this would have to be done in person, but if you live near the Bay Area in California I think we can figure something out.
Band together against the popular kids and let one of us quirky, artistic, over-thinking types finally win the popularity contest. Oh, and if you were wondering after reading my marketing plan, yes, you are invited to my Graduation.
Argh,
Tyler Cushing
22-year-old quirky, artistic, over-thinking type
his idea is pretty good.
i bet ur just gelious ur idea was rubish
I have no problem with other people's ideas in the slightest actually. I am just trying to put my plan out there for the most amount of eyes to see. Whether it is me emailing friends to take a look at my post, making a Facebook Event asking for friends to vote for me, or sending out a bulletin to other folks on MySpace, well, that is called marketing my idea. I don't see how I am hurting someone by doing this. A good idea is a good idea, no matter what.
Frankly, this idea "MP Gaming Launch Idea" is interesting. I, personally, would not do it or put money into it, but then again I am only one person lost in the 'verse. No need to worry about me.
;-)

This idea is awesome. I remember doing this for Blingo when I first read about it. The only issue I can see arise is that I read about it, meaning, for those that are not actively searching in the internet world (i.e., those people that only check their email, MySpace page, friend’s blogs, or Facebook Profile, etc.) they would not know about this deal. If you adjoined this plan with marketing for it, say in online communities where people spend lots o’ time, then you would have something to grow with.
In terms of the actual prizes I would suggest keeping it to inanimate things like gift certificates (allowing the international market easily be a part of the fun) so as to keep everything streamlined. If you wanted to keep the gift certificates “fresh” you could allow the winners to pick where they want the certificates to come from, chosen from a list of providers of Snap’s choosing.
The idea that people doing this will then be interested in the engine itself may be pushing the boundaries though. If I am drawn into an online application simply to rack up the most searches in hopes of winning a prize, it dilutes the online creation I am using. It would almost be like stores telling customers that every time they came into the store you may win a prize, the more you do it, the more likely you will win a prize. Some may be drawn to this and actually purchase something at the store, but I would be willing to bet that most would do it a couple of times and then get frustrated at not winning anything, only to not come back to the store because their own feelings frustration at not winning. If you can extrapolate what I am getting at with my real-world analogy and put it to Snap.com you will see that I am saying most people will not come back to the site, simply due to annoyance.
To sum up, I have never visited Blingo.com since their inception when they were giving away big prizes. Why would I?
Snap.com should be looking for what makes them different/better and flaunting that. In their case it is the visual interface for users to see while searching and the engine’s ability to foresee what you are thinking. Use those, flaunt them, and start a base of users that actually love the search engine itself, not the prizes they are giving away.
I still like free prizes though.

Tyler is a spam artist. I don't know if there is anything in the rules against spammers, but he has admitted to spamming people to get votes. He has gone around and trashed everyone of the top suggestions and posted big advertisements in them, trying to get votes for his suggestion.
Instead of working on coming up with a good idea and winning things fairly, this Tyler is trying to scam his way into winning. I don't know if there is anything in the contest rules against spammers, but there really should be!!
bitpower: Wow, nice to see you again. Oh, wait, I just saw you on the other board as well. So, in terms of what you are saying my idea is not good, right? Why haven't I gotten ANY replies with regards to the idea being bad? Why haven't any of your who have been complaining cosmos made a comment on MY ACTUAL IDEAS rather than me being a "spam artist". If you want to start labeling people I could just as easily call you a Capitalist and point out that your plan is meant to feed upon the children of America and their inability to censor Advertising. Or I could point out that the degradation of our schools is enough with Bush enacting No Child Left Behind, let alone having their environment saturated with Ads, but hey, I wouldn't stoop to that level.
Hearts,
Tyler
i like this tyler guy he is funny, and i dislike you people who keep putting down mp-gaming's idea -_-
Tis a good idea it is.. infact so many of these ideas are good, i dont see many bad ones. GG :P
ahem
this idea isnt the best there is.., but i cant think or see any better one.. so i voted this one..
Dislike? DISLIKE? I hate this idea. Stupid popularity contest is all it is. For gods sake, all the people that supposrt this are just fanboys of their damned clan.
People who said other ideas are rubbish are either sucking up to this "MP-Gaming" should really just die. Like cam for instance, or even pino0b.
ffs some even have an MP tag! That is proof that this is just some stupid way to earn some money. Not a supporting topic for snap.com.
And I quote from MP-Gaming.NET:
Alright, let me try to simplify this as best I can. This is basically a search engine site that will be relaunching soon. They are having a contest to figure out the best way that they can launch the search engine. The contest idea with the most votes wins, and currently the highest voted contest has 11 votes. The prize money for this contest is $5000 to the winner, and $5000 to the website. We could seriously use this money to support MP-Gaming for quite a while. Please do me a favor and vote, you will have to register before you can vote. It will take seconds of your time and requires a valid email address. Click the link below to get started:
Once again, I hate these people.
Hi Muffin, nice of you to reply here. Just in case anyone begins to wonder why she is so harsh in her comment above. Muffin used to be an MP-Gaming moderator. Muffin was caught cheating in a game we played and was banned from everything. Muffin probably thought that her reply to this blog idea would be anonymous.
That aside, this is realistically a popularity contest. Personally I think that Snap should handpick the idea and the person submitting it gives up any and all legal rights to this idea. It is a way for us to continue to run our gaming servers, which you(Muffin) are still apparently interested in. I hope in the future you will find better things to do with your time than to go out of your way to disrespect people and their interests.
Love the Idea Think it's great
All I can say is that MPgaming got owned.
