One of the most common requests we've received from Users since we launched the new version of Snap in May is to lose our "custom scrollbar" in the left results pane, and replace it with your browser's "native scrollbar." While the custom scrollbar was required to allow you to scroll through the results pane with your mouse, because it was "artificially created" (using javascript), it was slow, jerky, unresponsive… basically it didn't perform well enough to contribute to helping you "find what you're looking for faster" with Snap. But the requests kept rolling in, and frankly, we weren't satisfied with the current solution either, so engineer extraordinaire Joe Chen spent a bit of time researching and prototyping new solutions, and finally - wha-la! - got it to work. And not only that, but scrolling through results now is extremely responsive and fluid, with no delays to speak of. We released this new scrollbar last week and I'm finally writing this now because it's been tested and proven in the live environment by you, our Users, and it's here to stay. All supported browsers and platforms can now take advantage of this solution. I'm sure some won't know what I'm talking about because, after all, it's just a scrollbar, right, and you never noticed it? But if you are one of the many who did yearn for something better, you'll understand - and hopefully appreciate - this advance. |
