Let me first say thanks and lay down some profuse complements to Robert Scoble and the PodTech.com crew (and their sponsor Seagate) for putting together an amazing hospitality suite… THE best I have ever been privvy to plug in, sit down, and check emails in… not to mention meet new Blog-o-philes and some pretty heavy-duty tech heads to boot (after all its CES)! I am sitting here at 11:25pm writing my post and the blogheads keep streaming in… the food and drink is flowing… and the conversations are abound… in the middle of all of this is a slew of bean bags and recliners with people typing furiously at various Mac Powerbooks, pc laptops, and miscellaneous handhelds… the epitome of blog and gadget heaven. I had some very interesting conversations this evening with some people and companies that may be of interest to Snap and what we are doing with 'visual' search. I discussed everything from geo-tagging data, location based mobile and search services, wikis and blogs, image sharing, podcasting and vlogs, and much more… One of the most interesting discussions was with Peter Cranstone at 5o9inc working on something I will call 'mobile awareness'. What is this 'mobile awareness'? It’s the technology and software to communicate your various mobile and fixed devices position and (user selectable) meta information to online service providers via GPS, reverse triangulation, or plain old text entry of address/zip data to provide more contextually accurate services. You can check out the Peter Cranstone: Power of Personalization video posted on the Boulder New Technology Meetup site which goes into techy detail on what its all about. |
