Digg Expose
Mashup of DIGG Posts and Snap Preview Shots

It never ceases to amaze me the cool stuff that people are doing with APIs. This little mashup was found on the YourMinis site. Basically a realtime feed of DIGG posts illustrated using Snap Preview Shots, with some layout and sorting tools to adjust the way it renders the previews as they stream in.

Usage: CLICK on the linked images to go to the Web Pages -OR- CNTRL CLICK to go to the articles posted on DIGG. Sort the posts and change the design layout via pulldown menus.

Update I: We recently posted a followup blog entry to answer many of your questions sent to us in reference to our Image API and public access to it thereof... Read this Snap Image API Disclosure post for more information on this subject.

Update II: The DIGG API Contest finally closed and our friend Hart Wollery at YourMinis.com came in Third Place with his DIGG Expose submission. Not only did he get some amazing traffic from the original DIGG post... but his idea won Third Place! I wanted to send out a hefty congratulations to Hart for his work, from all of us here at Snap!

Haha, looks like somebody on Digg discovered this post, it made the front page, and now the app isn't working because I guess it ate up all your bandwidth. I don't know if there's anything you guys can do about it, but hopefully it can be fixed within the next week or I'm out of the contest :( Thanks for your support guys!

Hart,

We reset the bandwidth issue. Should work fine from now on. Thanks again for your support and innovative creation!

Where can I find the Snap API's?

I looked at the expose page and was amazed. Now I am wondering if I could use it some how on my Spondicious Photography site at spondicious.com.

Would be good to use it to expose photos to the visitor. Hmmmmm I wonder

Wonderful job!
I'm also in the process of working up an API at www.heartlandoutdoorsman.com/phpBB2 for our Nature and Wildlife Photography forum. We're getting set to start a major contest, and that style of application would suit us very well.
Thanks for sharing it!

This thing is AWESOME. However I have another idea derivative of it that i think would ROCK.

How about the ability to put in the URL's from your own blogs blogroll and then use this snap view to look at that cloud of content? This would be an awesome way to show whats happening in your blogs world and those blogs you are interested in highlighting to your readers.

Basically what i want is this tool shown above with the ability to specifically show activity and only the pages I want. Does that make sense? its just a new way to look at your blog roll or any other specific list of sites you want to plug in.

Now I'm wondering if there is a way to convert RSS into an API?

Its really cool that Snap has been gaining more steam. I think their snapshots program is the most innovative thing I've seen in awhile.

My only gripe is that with the IMDB part of the snapshots API, they don't include the movie rating! wtf? :)

I also love the idea of being able to put some kind of a snap cloud on my blog or anywhere — using sites that I choose, such as my blogroll.

Hello,

Thanks so much for your comments on the mash-up I made reference to. I wanted to comment here on the question of our API being available for public use. At this time it is not available to the general public, this does not mean that it will not be in the future.
