Since the DIGG Expose mash-up blog post hit the front page of DIGG, we have received numerous requests for documentation and use of the Snap Shots Preview API. We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify that usage of our images is on an ad-hoc and permission based publisher service agreement basis at this time.

As of right now (and this may change) Snap does not have a public facing API and hence, use of it is allowed only with prior permission and approval on a case-by-case basis. We may release a public facing API in the near future if it makes sense.

Developers Note
If you are a developer with ambitions to create something truly unique and creative with Snap Preview Images, we would love to hear about it. Proposals to use our API in implementations that will benefit a large number of users, or demonstrate a new way of visualizing information, or enable a new way of navigating through information, without blatant commercial intentions are most interesting to us and will be well received.

For your idea to be reviewed, please send us a note to BetaAPI@snap.com with a brief description of your project (provided it passes our screening criteria noted above), and we will review your proposal internally.

Snap reserves the right to grant permission to use our API on a case-by-case basis at the current time. If you are interested in seeing our API released to the general public, please send us a note to our customer service/general feedback form here http://www.snap.com/about/feedbk.php

In the meantime, please feel free to sign up for the regular Snap Shots web service here http://shots.snap.com/. Thanks again for your interest and support!
